Mickey Spillane touched on the theme a couple of time, "The
Long Wait" and
"The Erection Set" (though TES had to do with a returning
secert agent). He also used the
returning-home-after-long-absense in some short stories.
Personally, it's a favorite theme of mine next to the
town-tamer story - having actually experienced the odd sense
generated by being away from home a long time, only to return
to a place that isn't the same as you left - and I'm looking
forward to seeing how Westlake handles it in "361". I'm sure
I won't be able to put it down. --Brian
