Of course, Richard Stark/Donald Westlake does not need me to
defend his writing. Well, I recently translated FIREBREAK and
several of his recent Westlake novels (THE AX, THE HOOK, etc)
into Japanese and know a number of factual and editorial
warts.
************** Whoa! That's cool that there is somebody from
Japan on the list, and a Stark translator no less! I posted a
short comment or two on Natsuo Kirino's OUT here recently.
Have you read it? Any comments?
After reading her book, I looked around for other Japanese
hardboiled/noir. Can you recommend any? I found Ryu Murakami
and Kenzo Kitakata. Would you recommend either of these? Any
particular titles? I was drawn to Murakami's COIN LOCKER
BABIES, mostly because it's translated by Stephen Snyder, who
I thought did an excellent job on Kirino's OUT.
