Of course, Richard Stark/Donald Westlake does not need me to
defend his writing. Well, I recently translated FIREBREAK and
several of his recent Westlake novels (THE AX, THE HOOK, etc)
into Japanese and know a number of factual and editorial
warts.
Okay, Stark writes about the Parker capers in which Parker
does not pull the hit smoothly, or he is being a little
amateurish and gets in trouble. If he wrote about the capers
in which he has no trouble and suceeds in the heist nice and
easy, these novels would be very short and boring.
Incidentally, NOBODY RUNS FOREVER does not end nicely, I
admit, but I looking forward to its sequal, as BUCHER'S MOON
(1974) is a sequal to SLAYGROUND (1971). Still, his latest is
better than Stark-wannabes.
Incidentlly, "John B. Allen" is one of Westlake's penname
when he was writing soft porns.
Best, Jiro Kimura
