----------
Jan 2005: Ross Macdonald, BLACK MONEY (1966). Macdonald's
place in the
pantheon
is hotly debated. Let's examine some evidence.
Feb 2005: The Bleeck midwinter. Ross Thomas month (including
books written as
Oliver
Bleeck or any other pseudonyms). Many are back in print
in
trade
paperback editions, and libraries and used bookstores
always
have something by him.
Mar 2005: Joseph Hansen (1923-2004) month. The Dave
Brandstetter series, and
anything
else by Hansen, are up for discussion.
Apr 2005: Guest of honour: Vicki Hendricks.
TBD 2005: Ken Bruen month. Ken Bruen will be the guest of
honour.
Exact
month to be determined.
----------
Having a theme for a month, where people can read any book by
a particular author or in a certain series or on a certain
topic, is easier all around than the old book-of-the-month
readings we'd do. It brings up a lot more discussion on the
list and it doesn't tie everyone to a certain book that may
be hard for them to find. I encourage everyone to read
something related to the theme of the month and mention it on
the list. All the regular RARA-AVIS talk goes on as well, of
course.
