I know I'm a month behind, but I've just finished SHAME THE
DEVIL by George Pelecanos and have already recommended the
novel to a couple of people. I raced through the last 140
pages (from Bernie getting his sleeping bag out of the truck
to the end) and locked myself away from my wife and children
for the last 40 or so. I spent the first half of the book
wondering how Pelecanos was going to bring all the disparate
plot stings together, or even if he would--I thought some
might just remain unresolved. But, no, they come together
beautifully, and I wasn't disappointed. This is one of those
books by which I will judge others for some time to come. I
can't wait for the ice to thaw so I can go out and get some
more.
