superb writing in it. I neglected to mention where I swiped
the idea about the impact that Madden's book had on
hardboiled criticism. Shame on me. I got it from Christopher
Metress's "Reading the Rara Avis" in the Winter 2005 edition
of Clues Magazine. Clues Magazine is a whole subject on its
own. I'll come back to it.
Didn't you mention John Barth's The End of the Road as one of
the books you referenced in your dissertation? What was the
thesis of your dissertation?
