He's the head of Dan Kearny and Associates, the private
detective company in the DKA novels: 32 CADILLACS, DEAD SKIP,
FINAL NOTICE, a few others. There's a young Joe-Goresish
fellow named Larry Ballard working there, plus some others,
all very entertaining. Kearny is a tough bird, and runs them
hard, but he's good, unlike Drinker Cope.
It's a great series. Read them, you'll like them. Start with
DEAD SKIP
(1972) and work forward. They become more humorous as they
go, and 32 CADILLACS (1992) is a riot.
