I loved Fade to Blonde, maybe because it was so true to the
style of the Gold Medals of the 50s. I was blown away by the
idea that a contemporary writer could write so well in a
style now 50 years old and with no anachronisms-that I could
find. That's tough to do. I did mention, just after having
read it, the weird movie references, which Charles explained,
much to my amusement. I keep running across "A Sound of
Distant Drums" references.
