I reading The Best American Short Stories 2005
edited by Michael Chabon (Houghton Mifflin), I was surprised
to find the second story in the collection is "Until Gwen" by
Dennis Lehane which had first appeared in Atlantic Monthly.
This is a very noir story told in the second person voice. It
should please everyone on this list.
Interestingly, the editor Chabon is the author of
the rather challenging The Final Solution, a pastiche of
Sherlock Holmes.
