I just finished rereading _Cast a Yellow Shadow_, an
excellent espionage thriller featuring McCorkle and Padillo.
McCorkle's wife has been kidnapped by officials of an unnamed
African nation with a race problem and a bad international
image. Padillo must do something in exchange for the woman's
freedom. Then all hell breaks loose and machinations start in
the usual Thomas fashion. A fine read.
My copy, which once belonged to a library, shows that the
book was taken out continuously betwen 1968 and 1972, then
readers tapered off until 1991, when it was retired. It
suggests that Thomas was very popular in the late sixties and
early seventies.
Best,
MrT
