My favorite is the one you've already mentioned, THE BRIDE
WORE BLACK. However, many prefer RENDEVOUS IN BLACK in which
Woolrich reworks the theme of the murderer motivated to
avenge the death of a loved one.
I think BRIDE is a technical tour de force, managing to
be simultaneously an inverted story and a whodunit, something
I've never seen anyone else do.
Another oft-mentioned Woolrich novel is PHANTOM LADY, the
first one he wrote as "William Irish." His only
"George Hopley" novel, THE NIGHT HAS A THOUSAND EYES, also
has its partisans.
