Hello. Since we're using the new Yahoo home as a kind of
beginning, let me drop in my own introduction.
Although I have lurked on Rara-Avis for several years and
have posted from time to time, I largely stay in the shadows.
I'm a longtime lover of all varieties of crime fiction,
particularly HB, though I also enjoy well-written stuff that
won't really fit comfortably into the HB definition (and I
like the Bludisian description the best) -- like John Straley
and Colin Dexter, among several others. I also devour books
on American and European history (the latter being a new
interest) and travel non-fiction (Theroux, Raban,
etc.).
In my non-reading time, I work in the insurance industry in
claims litigation. I was graduated from Indiana University in
Bloomington (hey, Miker) and live in central Ohio. In
addition, I write for Mystery News magazine, contributing
occasional reviews and the "In the Beginning" column on new
writers.
I consider Rara Avis to be a graduate level course in
comparative literature. I marvel at the wealth of knowledge
and passion regularly displayed here and I'm eternally
grateful to Bill Denton for providing us this forum to
discuss HB literature.
Cheers, Steve Miller
