I accidentally* saw this movie via Netflix last night. I'd
been meaning to read some Highsmith since her books were
discussed here last year, and this certainly was interesting.
The bright lighting and scenic tours around Italy keep it
from being noir, according to definitions this non-film buff
has been reading here, but to me the "Three Coins in the
Fountain"/"Roman Holiday" look of the movie made the plot
points more startling by contrast.
(I wonder whether this contrast is unintentional or
purposeful.) We also remarked on its odd gorelessness, which
may or may not tie in with the sunny scenery.
