miker, I was just wondering something similar. I just read
James W. Hall's Body Language, whose (not all that
convincingly female) protagonist is a police department
evidence technician/photographer. Does that count? There are
some seemingly realistic descriptions of her work before the
story veers off into femjep/serial
rapist-murderer/thriller-land. (I correctly ID'd the bad guy
at first appearance, but the writing was good enough that I
read it to the end to make sure I was right.)
