Given that Joe Friday DID make the list, it's interesting to
note that, when GUNSMOKE first debuted on radio, critics
referred to it as "DRAGNET on the plains."
BTW, though I've always enjoyed Jim Arness's interpretation
of the character, I agree that Conrad's version is
tops.
