Thompson and Willeford didn't have much in common as writers,
but their careers are similar (at least superficially). Both
wrote in the beginning for small paperback houses (Thompson
for Lion, Popular Library, etc., Willeford for Novel Books,
Beacon, and others), and both were later
"discovered." Willeford at least was around long enough to
enjoy some of his late-arriving fame.
