Someone mentioned the French new wave yesterday. They were a
bunch of film critics who thought they could do a better job
of making movies since it seemed everybody was awful. And in
the crime/hardboiled field, wasn't Boucher (well, not so HB I
guess) a big time critic who wrote pretty well himself?
That's one interesting thing about the NYT Book Review: they
get good writers to review books. They had Welty review Ross
Macdonald.
