It's been a long, long time since I've read it, but I'd agree
that The Dain Curse in Hammett's worst novel (the only one I
haven't read more than once), but that doesn't make it bad.
Far from it. You pretty much described it -- episodic,
pulpier than his usual, but it still had the Continental Op
and Hammett's great voice. Hammett's worst is still better
than many writers' best.
