Fleischman wrote a novel called BLOOD ALLEY, which was made into a film of the same name by John Wayne's production company, starring Wayne (after he fired Mitchum and couldn't get Bogart). It's about an American skipper smuggling a bunch of Chinese refugees to Hong Kong aboard an old ferry boat.
