I have to put together a reading list for a PhD candidate
whose major area is American hardboiled writing. Now, I have
a clear idea of what to use for most of the writers, but
here's a few I'm stumped on.
If you had to pick the essential works (2 or 3) by Elmore
Leonard, Ross Macdonald, Mickey Spillane (I was thinking just
"I, The Jury" would cover that one completely), and Richard
Stark, which titles?
