i understand your point. i guess if i try to be more succinct
about my own point, i would say that the modern literary
tradition of the immobilized man, who is always a listmaker
and a collector of small details ad infinitum, is part of
george p's literary inheritance. you gotta read 'new forms of
ugly' by willeford. this is not a hardoiled tradition, to be
sure, but very much a living thing in contemporary lit.
