there's some weird stuff going on here ...
a few years ago, when i was adjuncting at a community college
in southern pa, i met a faculty member named w. russel gray
who shared an interest in everything crime and detection
(with a soft spot for hard-boiled). he, oddly enough,
recommended a text called DEFECTIVE DETECTIVES IN THE PULPS,
edited by Hoppenstand & Brown. from what i recall, some
oddball stuff about hemophiliac 'tecs and ones w/o
faces.
the thing is, another russell gray (different spelling,
natch, a.k.a. bruno fischer), may have contributed a story to
this text. i actually thought the two were the same (cue
eerie music) until i found out that gray/fischer died a few
years ago.
does anyone out there know (or have) the contents of the
above text? whew. i think i'll lie down now.
