Just for the record, when I introduced the phrase into this
discussion,
I meant "zero degree writing" as a compliment. I didn't mean
that
Raymond had zero writing ability or style, quite the opposite.
I meant
that his style was cut so close to the bone, so trimmed down to
facts,
and a seeming lack of point of view, "Just the facts, Ma'am,"
that the
reader is forced to supply his/her own emotional responses to
the
graphically, but not gratuitously, described horrific violence.
Raymond
does not provide an easy out, letting you distance yourself
by
experiencing it all vicariously through the eyes of
another.
