Actually, the book calls itself a novel, but its more a
collection of
anecdotes about the narrator and a group of professional
poker players who
make the rounds of casinos.
Hard-boiled tone. Sort of a stream-of-consciousness type
style. Perhaps
"stream-of-anecdote" style is better, since the first-person
narrator seems
to be relating all his tales during some sort of
post-midnight caffeine- or
coke-blasted jag. Interesting view of the professional poker
world from an
insider.
But it ain't a novel. -- Duane
