Mario,

"dememorized society"--what a great expression! All too often, I feel that
today's readers have never read anything written before the Nineties. But
then, that's just the Reactionary Old Curmudgeon in me coming out.

The only Kendrick I've read is one featuring his blind detective, can't
remember the character's name or the title. I have that Ed Jenkins
collection by Gardner but haven't read it yet. About twenty years ago, a
couple of collections of his hardboiled Westerns came out. _Whispering
Sands_ was the title of one, can't recall the other. But these are great
stories, and I recommend these two volumes. Actually, I like the Perry
Mason books, too, especially the ones from the Thirties and Forties.

Best,
James
