An American named Leon Rains played Joe Jenkins. The
production company was
called Aarhus. At sometime, Rain had migrated to Germany,
where was a
popular performer of opera from 1899 to about 1917, before
turning to film.
I'm not sure if this was a character created for film, or
whether he was
originally a character in books or short stories, or even if
he was
hardboiled or not, but if anyone has any info, please feel
free to contact
me directly at mailto:kvnsmith@colba.net
. Once I collate enough info, if
it's relevant to this list, I'll tell you what I've found
out.
