I would say that *anything* by Willeford is automatically
recommendable.
He was a fantastic storyteller, with one of the most
remarkable
authorial voices in American literature - his books are full of
wry,
menacing, weird insights even on the most mundane things. It's
clear now
that his death was an irreparable loss to literature. It's very
rare to
find such a combination of intelligence, imagination, and
brilliant
technique in one writer.
It would be nice if those old Willeford titles were brought
back in
print permanently. Since his death, his reputation has
skyrocketed and
he deservedly has more fans than ever.
