Wait a minute--why isn't "Homicide" germane to this list?
Most of the
adjectives I've heard applied to the series (such as the
perennial
favorite "gritty") are the same ones that critics usually
apply to
hard-boiled crime fiction. Is the series not "germane"
because it deals
with police rather than a p.i.? Are we going back to the
foolish notion
that "hard-boiled" can only be applied to fiction that meets
a rigid
definition (such as whether the protagonist has a girlfriend
or not)?
