I heartily support this proposal. It might even make me read some of the stuff in that stack that's not so much a 'to be read pile' but a 'really ought to be read if there weren't so much dust on it and I had the time to get down to some serious skimming pile' "Richard L. [SNIP] >Maybe we could start with Chandler's "Red Wind," I think that a short story a month is far from arduous (it might even be *too light* a load?). But it's a good suggestion, which I think is both <easily> do-able and fun. "Red Wind" seems as good a place to start as any. "Richard L. Not that I have any concerns about Bill's tastes, but it might be better if the proposals were generated by list members? I'm willing to go along with Richard's suggestion, if other readers <and Bill> are agreeable though. It would be good to see a few proposals for a bunch of stories from others <I'll try to come up with one later> so that we can see what's ahead. Maybe a 10-month reading programme? I'd like to see a balance between old boiled and neo boiled or, if there is an 'unbalance' then skewing that in favour of the old school (6:4) Maybe we could work through selections from an already existing anthology? Would Adrian & Pronzini,.eds's, *Hard Boiled* be a good one to use? (though it lacks "Red Wind") OK, time to go to work ...
