In a message dated 97-02-10 14:39:05 EST, you write: << Haycraft notes in an introduction to James Sandoe's 'Readers' Guide to Crime' that he thinks Adams's *Sabotage* (1940) ought to be included (Sandoe doesn't include any Adams in his list). Haycraft also mentions Adams among a list of 'capable or better newcomers' in his essay, 'The Whodunit in WWII and After.' >> Apparently, Sandoe reconsidered. In a list compiled in 1952, Sandoe selected Adam's Sabotage as well as John Spain's Dig Me a Grave as among the best Hard-Boiled novels (TAD's book of lists, pg175-80). According to Francis Nevin's article in Twentieth Century Crime and Mystery Writers, Adams was an art director for films (and you thought screenwriters were obscure!). regards, Tim - # RARA-AVIS: To unsubscribe, say "unsubscribe rara-avis" # to majordomo@icomm.ca
