Hello all: My name is Elliott Vanskike, ABD grad student at Univ of Iowa. I put together a Hammett panel for 96 MLA and am issuing a call for papers for a Jim Thompson panel (it should appear in the next MLA Newsletter). But, after reading Michael Sharp's post, I thought it would be smart to post here too. 10-page papers or detailed 1- or 2-page abstracts on any aspect of Thompson's work (save film adaptations) by April 1 to Elliott Vanskike Dept. of English EPB 308 Univ. of Iowa Iowa City, IA 52245 or elliott@inav.net I'd also love to hear from anyone interested in/working on experimental detective fiction (Gertrude Stein's Blood on the Dining-Room Floor, Robbe-Grillet, New York Trilogy, J.G. Ballard, etc) Elliott Michael Sharp wrote: My dissertation is about ideals of masculinity in 14c. England . . . and I think my interest in the complexity of masculinity, coupled with my predictable but unrelenting adoration for Jim Thompson novels, led me into a general interest in American Crime Fiction. It is now what I consider my secondary field of expertise (though compared to many of you I will seem extraordinarily ignorant at times, I'm sure). - # RARA-AVIS: To unsubscribe, say "unsubscribe rara-avis" # to majordomo@icomm.ca
