Overheard at the National Gallery of Canada, in Ottawa, when a parent was looking at a brochure for The Anthropocene Project and showing a small reproduction of an Edward Burtynsky photograph to two children:
Isn’t that cool? It looks so awful, what man’s done to the world.
Burtynsky’s an excellent photographer (his company Toronto Image Works is where I do all my photo printing), and I know this reaction is not his intent with his documentary work, but this sums up perfectly why I didn’t like The Anthropocene Project.
