...what I've heard so far is a brief take from NPR affiliate WHYY on Carlin Romano's Akashic entry PHILADELPHIA NOIR, which I hope misquotes him as saying he doesn't care for noir much, so he made a point of mixing in "young literary" writers.

I'll hope that was a misquotation, but Romano is prone to less than brilliant pronouncements.
