Patrick Neate's CITY OF TINY LIGHTS features "London's best Ugandan-Indian
private eye," Tommy Akhtar. It's a very unique thriller -- well-written,
funny, political, full of oddball slang and mild-to-seriously hardboiled --
that was short listed for the L.A. Times Book Prize in 2005. Haven't read
any of Neate's other novels, one of which won the Whitbread, so can't say if
this is his only journey into genre.
