Black Squirrel Press, an imprint of Kent State UP, has reprinted Jim Tully's _Shanty Irish_ (1928) and _Circus Parade_ (1927); the Black Squirrel Web site asserts that Jim Tully "is credited with originating the hard-boiled writing style."
