very similar for me, ron. loved 'the road'; never got very far with 'blood meridian'. yet totally agree with jack(?) that the first 3 pages of 'blood' are an awesome poem. and i loved the initial scene with the judge.

THE ROAD is my favorite novel, bar none -- unseating THE POSTMAN ALWAYS
RINGS TWICE which had held that title for years. I also enjoyed NO COUNTRY
FOR OLD MEN a great deal. I've tried twice now, however, to read BLOOD
MERIDIAN, and have yet to get farther than the first third of the book. I
plan to try one last time sometime down the road, and hope I'll have better
luck. Similarities between BLOOD and the BORDER TRILOGY has kept me from
trying the latter, so if my third try at BLOOD is successful, I'll give that
one a shot as well. Yet I can't criticize McCarthy's style because any
writer that can compose the stunning work of art that is THE ROAD surely is
doing something stylistically right. Perhaps his later work is accessible
in a way his others are not, for reasons that have less to do with style and
more to do with...well, something else (though I've no idea what). I wish I
was more versed in McCarthy's work to say. Perhaps someday I will be.
