    Yes, that guy is a great character. Pilfered from Chandler's short story _No Crime in the Mountains_, if I recall correctly. I've reread a bunch of the stories from Killer in the Rain reently, but not that one. As in previous readings, _Bay City Blues_ impressed me as a masterpiece of a story.
