Speaking of Hammett, over the weekend I read the first 100 pages or so of Diane Johnson's biography: http://www.amazon.com/Dashiell-Hammett-Life-Diane-Johnson/dp/0449902234/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1244554400&sr=1-1
I wonder what others think of this book? Is this the definitive biography, or is there one generally accepted to be better?
I have (so far) found the biographer's "voice" almost totally absent (which, I guess, could be either a good or a bad thing), but have really enjoyed the various letters and other bits and pieces from Hammett's life.
