Dear Fellow Rare Birds-
I was recently at the university where I earned my Masters' Degree, giving a
breakfast talk on Lincoln (I wrote a book on him a few years back), and had
a chance to catch up with the now-retired prof who taught the only creative
writing class I've ever taken: a class on how to write a mystery.
My prof was looking for homes for his book collection (he's down-sizing),
and graciously offered that he had "a few John D. MacDonald Gold Medals
lying around," and would I be interested in taking them? I said yes, he
said he'd ship them to me, and I nearly forgot about it.
Well, they arrived yesterday, and there were more than "a few"!
Thirty-three in all! I've heard a few of them praised on this list (ONE
MONDAY WE KILLED THEM ALL, for example), but I was wondering if any of my
fellow Rare Birds might have a particular favorite among them. I've listed
them below, and would some input from the rest of you!
