Having just returned from Florida where I was stopped for speeding by the pigs aka the fuzz, I thought would comment on the term , the Horsemen. However, I should mention that, despite the fact that I was driving a car owned by a Florida resident, the Fort Lauderdale sheriff's officer let me off with a warning after he saw my Canuck driver's licence and realized I didn't know the area or speed limit after coming off the Florida Turnpike. He didn't even check my breath to see if I smelled of Canadian bacon. As for the Horsemen, I remember the episode of DaVinci's Inquest where the term was used and knew he was referring to the Mounties. While I can't say where for sure, I do know that I have heard people in the Canadian prairie provinces where the RCMP provide service in small towns and rural areas call the Mounties, the Horsemen. I play hockey with a retired Mountie, who rode in the Musical Ride, so I'll ask him when I see him Monday.
