anyone know if 'caught stealing' was written as a stand alone, as opposed to the 1st part of a trilogy?

tho i felt the books were very different, as a whole (the trilogy), i was greatly impressed and moved the saga.

obviously, a trilogy is more like a stand alone than a series is.
