An enthusiastic agreement on Ellin's short stories. While I've struggled to
maintain interest in almost each of his full-length novels (save for
DREADFUL SUMMIT, which I believe was his debut novel), his short stories are
brilliant. THE SPECIALTY OF THE HOUSE AND OTHER STORIES (Mysterious Press
HC), his short-story omnibus (?) is outstanding and highly recommended for
anyone's suspense library. I have a signed/lettered/slipcased copy of that
book, and it'd be one of the last few books I'd unload if circumstances
dictated the culling of my collection.
