As I was explaining to a somewhat stunned mainstream reader... these
are our classics. U. of Chicago Press is doing us a huge favor. I hope
the venture at least breaks even and they can continue the series
until the end. It would probably be a first for the hardboiled genre.
Well, Library of America did do some excellent reissues, but the
Parkers are in more urgent need of revival. Such a body of work, and
it is just one part of Westlake's work. The Dortmunders have fared a
lot better... I don't think The Hot Rock has been out of print.
