    That is EXACTLY the way it is. Amazing film, amazing novel, essentially nothing in common. The novel is easily the best thing Hughes ever wrote, IMHO.

    One of the chapters in the excellent Hardboiled Hollywood (Max Decharne) is about In A Lonely Place. It begins: " 'In A Lonely Place' is one hell of a film, and one hell of a book, but apart from the title and the names of several characters, they have virtually nothing in common with each other."
