Jim Thompson's _The Killer Inside Me_ gave me the willies
when I read it. It is a book I wouldn't reread. Fast Lane is
up there, too, and I read that one twice when I reviewed it.
There are parts in Ellroy's LA Quartet that I find very
disturbing. And for some reason, Ross Thomas's _Briarpatch_,
a great novel in all respects, left me very disturbed. I
recall the book very clearly, too. It is a very pessimistic
book, far more than other Thomas novels.
I realize I haven't even scratched the surface: too many
disturbing books.
