I searched the rara-avis archives and found some discussion
on the Randy Striker books (pseudonym for Randy Wayne White).
I enjoyed reading one, THE DEEP SIX, reissued by Signet in
2006. Dusky MacMorgan is a likeable protagonist, an ex-SEAL
and Nam vet who does side jobs for Uncle Sam down in the
volatile Florida Keys. Lots of action and fight scenes makes
this more of a men's adventure book. Dusky has scars from
sharks, etc., and meets lots of beautiful ladies. The setting
descriptions remind me of JDM. I'd read more in the
series.
