When a play is bad, it's the fault of the actors. When a
movie is bad, it's the fault of the director. DePalma casts
his movies and shoots every scene at the very least twice. If
he chose to include takes that embarrass the actors, it's not
their fault. They can only do, over and over again, exactly
what the director asks them to.
Personally, I didn't think THE BLACK DAHLIA was anything like
DePalma's worst. The original material was flawed with a weak
ending. Someone should make a movie of Gilmore's SEVERED.
Then we'll get a little closer into the dirty secrets of that
horrendous crime.
