PSYCHO was published as a mystery/suspense novel. There is no supernatural element in the novel. It is pure crime/suspense, although in its presentation, it prompts many readers to have reactions similar to a horror novel.

Bloch was well-established as a mystery writer, often appearing in the detective pulps and digests and all of his five novels published prior to PSYCHO were crime fiction.
