Chandler and Sale were friends, circa, 1944, when both were
screenwriters at Paramount. According to Sale, they used to
sit together in the offices, share a few drinks and talk
about the early pulp days. Chandler was certainly Sale's
senior, in age and critical attention, but Sale started very
young, so in that sense, they were contemporaries.
