Great post Jim. I too heartily recomend Block's collections
of his writing columns. He is very insightful and you are
quite right about how he uses the work of other writers to
illustrate his points. I am a big fan of John O'Hara but
Block pointed out that O'Hara was a master at depicting
sensitive interactions between characters yet he was famous
for his difficult, brooding relationships in real life. An
interesting insight about one of my favorite writers.
Block is one of the best writers on writing that I've ever
read.
